The Aurora is a reasonably rare, aggressive platform that is justifiably terrifying burning towards targets. It is the tied fastest cruiser in the game with the Heron, followed by Falcon. You take the role of a space captain seeking fortune and glory however you choose.Īnd in my opinion Starsector is the BEST space game ever created. The Aurora is a top-end, high-tech cruiser. Starsector (formerly “Starfarer”) is an in-development open-world single-player space-combat, roleplaying, exploration, and economic game. Something about Starsector (From official website) Can we beat starsector without buying any ships? This will be soooo much fun and pain :D The core gameplay loop of extremely well-designed combat and the fleetbuilding process is what makes me keep coming back to the game.Welcome back to our Starsector SUPER modded playthrough. He doesn't really touch much on the combat mechanics, which are extremely deep, or the core gameplay loop, which is a lot like Mount and Blade meets Mechwarrior, with a lot of build freedom and optimization possible but without set "correct" choices. For example, it's been kinda funny watching how new players post-Szeth coming to the Discord have about 10,000x more smuggling related questions than we ever got before. It's a pretty good representation of what it looks like coming to the game.

There are pretty frequently mod releases to tide people over in the meantime (the game has a strong modding scene, empowered by an extremely open Java API and lots of things being externalised for modding), and a very active Discord community.

The game tends to do a big feature update every 8 months to a year, followed by a few hotfix patches and then a long wait (interspersed by blog posts and Twitter teases) until the next big patch. FWIW, over this timescale I have a very positive view of the development and the direction and vision of the main dev.

They're somewhat overtuned because literally every ship they have is a semi-phase (their phase systems only last for a few seconds, rather than until your flux maxes out) ship with regenerating armor and they have some really nasty weapons (their light cruiser's base config for example has three swarm missile launchers with regenerating ammo and a Tachyon Lance on steroids, plus some super railguns) but they are so amazingly fun.Ī lot, but I picked it up in 2012 after TotalBiscuit's preview, which is.

  • "Our ships also grow tentacles when they vanish into phase space".
  • "Also all our ships are named after HP Lovecraft cosmic horrors".
  • Combat like Gratuitous Space Battles with more complexity, background sim & trading like X and Elite Dangerous, Exploration like Stellaris. The perfect blend of so many features from other games I love.
  • "We are peaceful aliens who like and trade with everyone and merely want everyone to develop peacefully and cooperate" I didn't know a game like this existed till last night and i've wanted one for so long.
  • You might be interested in that.Īnother hilarious mod that I recommend everyone try is Foundation of Borken, because because the fluff and aesthetics are hilarious: Varya's Sector has an optional toggle that prevents the pirates and pathers from spawning more bases if you destroy all their non-hidden markets. Like, seriously, Nexerelin at the very least allows you to conquer a world and then hand it over to another faction, if you hand all worlds off to the Independents (Like I did) the raids and inspections and whatnot stop.Īllowing you to grow your interstellar empire and proceed to explore the rest of the known Sector in relative peace. Hegemony Inspections are fine, and you can always pay them off, but Punitive Raids whereas you still lose reputation for destroying them, and pretty much have to pay again to get them to stop.

There should be a kind of 'power level' for each factions, based on number of ships, colonies and bases, because while bullying the newcomer is a test by fire, once you develop enough of your fleet that fighting means immediate loss, the other factions should pull back from their "Punitive Raid" Mechanic and just chill for a bit increasing their fighting force. On the other hand, the mod enables raids from the REDACTED, and pretty much everyone else, and doesn't really solve the one fundamental issue I've actually managed to have with the game: The other factions knowing when to call it quits.

This way you don't have to necessarily trek around the Sector finding those damn raiding pirates/Luddic pathers to strike down. It also allows you to near a planet, pop up the Fleet Directory, and pay to get Invasions/Strike Teams underway into other places.
